June 8, 2009

I have never been shy about my thoughts about Canada’s declining place in our technological world. We have gone from being one of the most respected leaders in technology to being a laggard as we fall behind countries we use to lead. this is something that we could turn around if we had a [...]

Canada heads to the technological bush league

March 31, 2009

We have some of the smartest minds in the world working in all areas of computer technology. We were at one time a leader in broadband penetration and a beacon to countries with our hands off approach to the Internet. That is all changing and it boils down to, in my own personal opinion, [...]

Cory Doctorow you need to STFU about Canada

February 9, 2009

Don’t get me wrong – I have the utmost respect for Cory and I like his writing on Boing Boing (I still want to get a copy of his Little Brother book) but in this instance he pisses me right off with what I consider to be a hypocritical stance. You see Cory will every [...]

Britain trying for ‘official’ ID cards through the back door

December 3, 2008

Want to see people get their shorts in a bunch real quick; and quite rightly so, just mention government ID cards. In the U.S. it has only recently become a topic of conversation that federal and state governments bring up when they think no-one is listening. In Canada it has been talked about to an [...]

Saskatchewan coughs up big bucks for 100% high speed access

November 27, 2008

I’ve often maintained that without ubiquitous access to the internet for everyone regardless of where they live a lot of the technology people talk about for the future won’t happen; or we will deepen the existing technological divide. As we constantly upgrade our hardware to [...]

Keep your grimy paws off my ISP’s money

November 11, 2008

There are time where the ‘liberal’ artsy fartsy crowd really grates on my last nerve and in Canada they are at it again. Right now there is a lot of discussion going on [...]

Why education is more important than ever

November 2, 2008

Education in North America sucks rocks.

Just ask any teacher in just about every city and town in either the US or Canada and they will tell you the same thing. It doesn’t matter whether the No Child Left Behind program in the US is nothing short of a joke. The fact is that in both countries we are letting our children down, we are letting ourselves down, we are letting our individual country’s future down; but most importantly we are letting our teachers down. The vast majority of teachers are dedicated people who believe strongly in what they are doing. It isn’t about the money for them, it is about being able to teach our children in the best way that they can so our children are empowered to change the future.

It isn’t the teachers that suck rocks - it is the system within which they are forced to work. It is the battling of little personal power fiefdoms that is sapping the strength of the teachers who literally hold the power to affect all our futures within their hands.
