Ya I know the whole A-List thing has been put through the wringer more times than we would like to count. The members love to deny it exists or that if it does that it doesn’t really matter especially as they recite their mantra – it’s the content .. it’s the content. Well if you’ve seen the content of many of those so-called A-Listers it amounts to not much more than powder puff pieces where they slap each other on the back – or at least when they aren’t insulting each other to get page views.
However with the slow decline of Technorati and the value of the so-called A-List ability to pull in readers some other way had to be found to reaffirm their greatness within the tech blogosphere. Now not one to miss an opportunity Guy Kawasaki came to his fellow A-Listers rescue with a newly minted site called Alltop.
Granted Alltop isn’t just about A-Listers looking for a new home as the site also has sections for celebrities – should make Paris and Spears happy – along with ones for gaming, fashion sports and politics. The interesting thing is though that while it doesn’t have a category for technology Alltop lumps all the famous tech bloggers under the Ego heading. Which I guess when you think about it it’s pretty appropriate.
So what does Alltop do?
Well using the Ego section as an example it lists the hot people of the day along with links to their last few posts that they have made. I guess the idea is that you can now get a distilled list of what the hot egos of the tech world are thinking. Sure the members of the Ego list aren’t all from the old; and I guess now passe, A-List of Technorati but they have a much cooler name you gotta admit.
Part of the current list of hot egos courtesy of Brian Solis’ post:
Fake Steve Jobs, Robert Scoble, Dave Winer, Guy Kawasaki, Seth Godin, Jeremiah Owyang, Teresa Valdez Klein, Jason Calacanis, Michael Arrington, Charlene Li, Tara Hunt, Doc Searls, Fred Wilson, Chris Brogan, Tim O’Reilly, Jason Kottke, John Gruber, Ze Frank, Chris Anderson, Marc Andreessen, Chris Messina, James Hong, Shel Israel, Jonathan Schwartz, Mark Cuban, Tom Peters, Marc Canter, Brian Oberkirch, Paul Kedrosky, Evan Williams, David Armano, Walt Mossberg, David Weinberger, and Nick Denton.
I wonder if this site cost Guy the same his truemors.com site did .. or did he have a couple of his hot friends chip and help out. As per usual though – especially when egos are involved Alltop will probably do well.
