I love programs. That is a fact that I have never tried to hide and while my real love has to be utility programs for Windows I am also hooked on programs of all types for the operating system. The problem I have always had is being able to find a reliable source of leads for quality software. Sure there are a lot of software download sites out there that one can go to but nothing beats software referred to you by people you know and can trust their opinions.
As good as the download sites might be with their rating systems and editor picks there is always a sense of whether you can really trust their opinions or not. After all how many of us had headed off to a download site and grabbed some editor’s pick only to find out it didn’t work as advertised or was just a piece of crap.
Well for the last year I have been involved with the social aggregator site called FriendFeed and have gotten to know a bunch of really good people there. As part of their feature enhancements the FriendFeed team added the option for FriendFeed members create rooms which can be used for any discussion and or sharing of information. These rooms can either be open to anyone who is a FriendFeed member to join or by invitation.
When this interesting new rooms option was made available a FriendFeed member by the name of Zee from WeDoCreative created a room called simply enough Apps; where the intention was for fellow FriendFeeders to share cool and useful software that they had found. Not only was it Windows related software but also Mac and web related stuff. At this time there are some 2,500 members in this Apps room sharing some excellent software.
You will need to create an account with FriendFeed in order to take advantage of all that the service has to offer; including the various available custom rooms but once you have just head over to the Apps Room and subscribe to it. If you are even the slightest bit of a program junkie I can assure you the time will be well worth it. As it is I already found two new applications today; one a desktop app and the other a web app, and I’ll be making sure to check back on a daily basis to see what new goodies are popping up there.
It literally is a treasure trove of goodies and I know considering the people in the room I can trust what shows up there much more than I could from any download site.
