A bit of a trip down memory lane

by Steven Hodson on November 15, 2008 · Comments

I know I joke around a little about being a cranky old fart but there are time when I sti back and look at some of the things I’ve done in my life and I figure the tagline works out pretty good. Considering that I started working on a dairy farm at the age of eleven (you ever try throwing hay bales that weigh more than you do? :) ) I have been working now for some 40+ years and had some great jobs in that time just as I have had some that really sucked - not to mention the one that caused an injury that afflicts me even to today.

During this work life of mine one of the jobs I really enjoyed was that of being a reporter / photographer for our town newspaper. Then the other day my wife; Kim, reminded me that we still had a photo album with a few surviving news clippings of stories I had written.

Well seeing as I had finally been able to buy a good 3 in 1 printer the other day I thought I’d see if I could scan in a few of them to share. While the straight scan didn’t work out that well the photocopy -> scan -> picture process worked out not too bad. So below are a couple of news stories I wrote for the Lindsay This Week back in 1980 (you can click on them for the larger view).

I should note that the byline says Steven Lager but you all know me as Steven Hodson -  that is because ‘Lager’ was my adopted name and I have returned to using my birth name of ‘Hodson’ - just to dispel any of you naysayers out there :) .. anyway here ya go

Okay enought of the memory lane silliness - time to get back to being cranky … :)

  • great post cranky one
  • thanks :)
  • Were you writing under a pen name then? Or are you now? Just wondering. Love these profiles. Do you miss reporting on people? You did it well.
  • When I was working as a reporter my surname (Lager) was my legally adopted name (father side) but several years ago for purely personal reasons I decided to return to my birth name. So in effect neither are a pen name just my real surname as I have grown up and made decisons about my own life.
