PJ’s Forum Round-Up 26.10.08

by PJ on October 26, 2008 · Comments

You may have noticed a lack of a post from me last week.  I was wrapped up with IRL events and had to take a breather for a bit.  I’m back, though, and ready to dish!

Probably the most notable event has been the forum relocation to a new server.  Service was getting a bit dodgy and Steven decided to pack things up and move out.  The forum response time is noticeably faster and everything appears to be in place so it looks like Steven dun gud!  *all hail Steven*  Thanks boss!

Kicking things off with a perusal of the Coffee Shop, we find two items of note.  Cleo is moving into a new home.  I guess she got a touch of jealousy due to the forums moving and decided to play one-up.  Regardless, all of us from the WinExtra crew wish you and the hubby great joy in the new place.  Speaking of hubby….  There was an interesting post from Pierre (you know, the guy with the hair that looks like binary ones) dealing with an online divorcee that killed her virtual hubby.  Sounds like someone has issues.

If you’ve $25k burning a hole in your wallet, why not pick up one of these?

Over in Security News & Information, MS’ out-of-band update caused a small ruckus.  Sadly, no one was really surprised.

Skipping into the Software News & Information group, we run into a few recommendations for software.  MS Photosynth was my contribution.  Worth looking at if you deal with collections of digital photographs.  Are you dealing with multiple computers?  Take a look at the post on Input Directorfrom ChadMan for some info.  Joan comes up with a great suggestion for a proggie that will split your screen into sections.  There are several alternatives that were thrown out there.  Surprisingly, MS has a solution as well.

Our resident gimpette, HelloKit, tells us her computer is haunted.  We had quite the blast at her expense.  We concluded something different.  :P

Joe the answer guy, got in part of his school’s shipment of laptops.  Color me green with jealousy….  Good going Joe, hope the fit the bill for the school.

To wrap things up, the Software help group holds a few posts of interest.  Setting Process Priority in Windows an issue for you?  Pierre’s got answers.  Dancer had some issues on removing a dual boot OS from her system.  Again, Pierre’s got answers.  Our very own Steven posted a link to a how-to on clearing up space on a Windows system.  Again, Pierre’s got answers.  Infinidean asks for recommendations on registry cleaners.  Yet once again, Pierre’s got answers.

Other folks have people.  Us?  We got Pierre.  *all hail Pierre*

Until next week:  Have a Great Day!

The forums might be moving smoothly for everyone else, but not for me. I had two days of "it'll only be a minute" message, now I can see the blog page, but when I click on the forum page its a blank white page except for the white sidebar.
I can get into the forums when I click on links from your report, but those might be cached or something.

Bummer. Have you tried cleaning out your IE/Firefox/Opera cache? Delete some cookies too. That may help.
  • Yeah, I tried to help him out via email the other day, I had reached the conclusion that something outside his machine was the culprit, or something within his machine that was beyond my feeble comprehension. <shrug>

Ok, got an answer for you.

The link off the menu bar is fubar'd. It links to www.winextra.com/index.php/forums when it should link to www.winextra.com/forums/index.php. I dropped a post in the forums asking to get that fixed. Thanks for pointing it out and it should be sorted quickly.

Yeah, the fix was to remove it. It'll get put back up one of these days. Just hang in there, buddy.
