In the past couple of days there’s been a few posts written about how movie producers are trying hard to deal with the devastating effect that social media tools like Twitter are having on the box office. Where once movie blogs were considered the next big territory for them to try and woo over that mantle may have been taken over by a potentially larger – and more vocal – crowd of movie goers.
Alex Billington over at FirstShowing.net quotes Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau, who is at Comic-Con for a screening of the movie, as saying
"You can’t underestimate how powerful this group is," Favreau says of the Comic-Con crowd that will be gathered on Saturday afternoon in the infamous Hall H to see what he’s going to show us from Iron Man 2. "It’s an unlimited press corps, all of them knowing how to communicate in a digital age. The geeks have inherited the Earth, and that’s good news for us." We’ll be there with very high hopes.
This was a follow up to Robert Downey Jr.’s statement where he says “They’re watching your footage, every one of them waiting to Twitter whether you suck."
Hmm … an unlimited press corps. That’s an interesting take I must say.
