From the Pipeline – 4.9.08

Gotta hate those days when you just can’t seem to find your groove no matter what you do especially when you write a post or two that you think are pretty good and they end up going nowhere and sounding like a big thud. Anyway here’s a few things that caught my attention in today’s FriendFeed pipeline.

Get Your B-List News At Techsted :: SheGeeks – chalk one up for Corvida because Techsted; and it’s sub site Tech Spy look like they could be real keepers. I know I’ll be checking in on them at some point during the day.

Last gasp? Yahoo and Google talking search ad deal :: VentureBeat – MG has a go around with the news that Yahoo is going to start pimping Google AdSense on some of the Yahoo search results pages. My bet is that if Google offered even a $1.00 less per share than Microsoft is Yang would jump for joy while signing the papers.

What the New York Times “death by blogging” story got right. :: Calacanis.com – I guess some-one had to come out on the side of the Gray Lady. Maybe Mahalo’s looking for some Wikipedia like patronage.

Will RSS Ever Go Mainstream? :: Copyblogger – Brian asks a pretty valid question and then unlike a lot of other people in the blogosphere give props to Guy Kawasaki’s Alltop project as being a good way for the average person to get their feet wet with this whole RSS feed thing.

Qik Raises $3M for Live Mobile Streaming :: TechCrunch – great now we get to be irritated all to hell even more with “I’m Qik streaming – come chat with me“

While things have seemed a little lax around here for the last couple of days I have no other excuse than it’s been a few days where I wish I could send them back for a refund. In the meantime here’s a few things that I managed to find of interest in my FriendFeed pipeline.

Yang to Ballmer: Stop lying and don’t be cheap. :: VentureBeat – I don’t care how much Yang thinks Ballmer is being cheap the whole idea is just plain stupid to begin with and hasn’t gotten any smarter with all the chest  beating going on.

Net4Mac: Social Networking for Apple Lovers :: profy – just so Apple lovers won’t feel left out of the rampant silliness being called social networking Net4Mac has been created just for you.

Why I unsubscribed from Robert Scoble’s FriendFeed :: Technovia – one person’s opinion why the noise isn’t worth the rare gems that are few and far between with Robert’s posts these days.

Why We Need Web Apps on the Desktop :: ReadWriteWeb – Josh gives a good breakdown as to why web apps on the desktop can be a good thing.

What to write about on a boring Saturday

Man what a boring day Normally by this time there is a bitchmeme going full swing but for some strange reason there isn’t even a whiff of one to start the blood boiling. So what are we left to write about that has even a modicum of interest. Sure we could do the old pile on Microsoft bitch slapping Yahoo but really other than the fact that it is a stupid idea in the first place what’s the point.

Of course we could all resort to making those silly ass lists about things that we just can’t live without when really they are nothing more than lists to fill spaces and hopefully during a boring enough time that they might get some link love out of the deal – that is if we haven’t fallen asleep before getting to the end of the list.

But then if you’re Jason Calacanis you’re going to be frothing at the mouth as you hunt up a replacement for Veronica since she actually proved she is as smart as she looks and left Mahalo for something – well anything – better. Problem is that the guys will be distracted by a more important study which said that sex which lasts 1 to 2 minutes is too short – well DUH!. Like the needed a study for that .. all they had to do was head over to the nearest grocery store and asked the first 100 women .. once they got up off the floor from laughing.

Finally though I guess we could contemplate a show of solidarity with the folks from Powerset and hang up our razors until they actually get a product to market. Mind you I don’t think too many women would appreciate the idea too much – that is when they aren’t laughing about what is too short.

Ah the weekend – isn’t it grand having a day to just kick back read your feeds and check out what is happening on FriendFeed and maybe doing a couple of other things during the few minutes of quiet time. Oh wait .. that’s just like the weekdays isn’t. Oh well in the meantime here’s a few things that caught my eye today on my FriendFeed pipeline.

Distributed Influence and the TechMeme Leaderboard :: Guidewire – some interesting thoughts about Techmeme. As a side note if you aren’t subscribed to Guidewire I suggest that you fix that right now – this is a blog with consistently well written posts.

There’s no such thing as a “social network” :: Paul Buchheit – and this from one of the minds behind FriendFeed – well worth reading.

Delicious Links – 20 links – friendfeed, blogging, javascript, psychology, startup :: Internet Duct Tape – the weekend isn’t complete without Eric’s weekly round up of interesting stuff.

Apple doesn’t care about its customers :: The Boy Genius Report  – the trials and tribulations of one person’s dealings with Apple support.

A watched pot never… :: Unraveling Obfuscation – one persons contemplation of dominating Techmeme on the weekend and why it failed :) – oh and I love the name of the blog

Yahoo’s New Rock Star Retention Program :: TechCrunch – some info on Yahoo’s attempts to stop any brain drain from its rock star employees.
