I So Want To Kick Explorer Right In The Ass

Of all the software I use on my computer I would have to say that when I’m not using Chrome or VLC chances are that I have Explorer open on the desktop doing something. The only problem is that the version of Explorer in Vista is a piece of crap. It never seems to remember its screen position of window size between restarts of the program. It doesn’t matter what you do it never remember the view setting for different folders even though I have set specific folders I always use to a specific view type more times than I care to count.

DreamScene Is Still Stupid

One of the big con jobs selling points of the whole Vista Ultimate package was the extras that were suppose to be a part of the bonus that the suckers people buying this over inflated version where suppose to get. I have written in the past about how I feel about both the Ultimate package as a whole and DreamScene being a stupid idea. Well according to Martin over at gHacks Microsoft finally updated the Vista Update center with some new fancy DreamScenes for us all to play with.

From the Pipeline – 9.24.08

Wow the world really sucks so I suggest we take a page from the McCain playbook and postpone everything until life doesn’t suck anymore – who’s with me on this? In the meantime though while you are deciding here’s a few things that I found in my information stream today that I found kind of interesting.

Army Struggling to Sync Next-Gen Techs :: wired.com – it can’t be easy going from being a foot soldier to being a foot soldier with knowledge oh how to use advanced electronic tools.

Survey: Web-based malware puts corporations at risk :: c|net security – see what happens when you let your employees take part in social media – they get your network infected with all kind of nasties.

Microsoft Live Labs Releases Color Picker Gadget :: Windows Experience Blog – for those of you using Vista and do a lot of design work you might find this sidebar gadget handy to have hanging around.

Web Meets World: Tim O’Reilly’s Bullshit Keynote :: Drama 2.0 – I don’t know who the writer is for this site is but I sure love his/her style – warms a cranky old fart’s heart.

Mystery ship washes ashore in Alabama after Hurricane Ike – CNN.com :: CNN – you never know what will show up and surprise those beachcombers after a storm but I somehow don’t think they would be expecting something like this.

Windows 7 On Track For Late 2009

Since April 7, 2008 when I wrote In a perfect Microsoft World – Windows 7 I have been suggesting that we would see the next version of Windows being releasesd at some point in late 2009. This goes contrary to the public line that Microsoft has been spinning in that it wouldn’t be available until some point in 2010.This stance has gotten them a lot of flack from just about all the Windows pundits with a few exceptions like Mary Jo Foley and Ed Bott. Both of them feel the same thing that I have been writing about in that Windows 7 will hit the shelves in late 2009.
