It was kind of a mish-mash night for Sean and I but it turns out that we actually have listener and he took the time to reach out to Sean on Twitter with a question.

Yup, that’s right, a real life question from a real life listener.

Needless to say we did our very best to answer the question.

While I am sure that Apple loves nothing better than owning the tech news cycle but I doubt very much that Jobs and company are overly happy with the whole iPhone 4 mess at this point.

However before we jump into the meat of the show Sean and I do tackle a couple of other interesting stories. For example – studying fruit fly brains to help create better robots.

Of course the show wouldn’t be complete without a look at the fantastic job being done by Old Spice in setting a new standard for social media style marketing.

Braindead TechCast EP 77: Social Media quarterbacks love their cheerleaders

Two days now and still everyone is obsessed with the iPhone – enough already. Both Sean and I take a look at this obsessiveness in tonights show while trying to not lose our cool – too much anyway in Sean’s case.

What amazed us as well that while everyone was expressing their undying love over an updated iPhone there were actually some things happening in the tech world that had absolutely nothing to do with the iPhone and yet the major blogs couldn’t be bother to write about them.

Actually given the current state of the high-jacking of the tech blogosphere by a social media lovefest it’s not all that surprising that real tech news is getting missed.

Posts mention in the show.

  • 2TB Hard Drives Crack the $100 Barrier – Gearlog
  • Microsoft just gave Google a swift kick in the balls – WinExtra

Now that’s the way to shut them up

I like the guys at Schiau Studios. I don’t know them and I probably won’t end up using any of their game for the iPhone but man I love their spunk.

I found out about this via Nick Bradbury’s Shared Feed (which if you don’t subscribe to you really should – it’s a great mix of stuff from social media to programming) and laughed my ass off. It is originally a post by Mike Schramm and worth reading for the smile it’ll put on your face.

Here’s the first two paragraphs

I like the way Schiau Studios thinks — when customers complained about the price of their $2.99US App Store game Alchemize, they raised the price up to $39.99. Over on the TouchArcade forums, they make their case: most devs, they say, when faced with complaints about price, will just lower their price even though their software is already cheap. So they wanted to buck the trend, and instead raised it up to almost $40 (which, incidentally, is slightly more than what you might pay for a handheld console game).

Lest you simply complain that they were greedy, they say they were only out to make a point: everyone who purchased the game at the higher price point will have all of their money go to charity, and now that the game’s back at the $2.99 price point, 33% of all the profits to be gained will go to the same charity. Regardless of whether the game’s any good or not, we like their thinking.

All I can say is
