CobWEBs Daily Edition podcast: It’s FTC Eve, have you put out milk, cookies & disclosures?

cbn1-podpost Yes folks it’s Monday and there for the start of another week of the most excellent podcast starring Sean P. Aune and myself in tonight’s show. In light of tomorrow being the first of the month we figured that what better topic to start the week with than the impending implementation of the FTC witch hunt regulations for bloggers.

For those that don’t know tomorrow is the first day where you are going to be required to plainly disclose your relationship in every single post that has to to with review products. Doesn’t matter if the items are hardware, software, or books you have to inform your otherwise brain dead (at least this is the FTC’s opinion) readers who can’t tell that they are being shilled to.

There’s still a whole bunch of questions that the FTC has failed to answer about this whole thing. Like – where are the disclosures suppose to go? Do we have to go back through all our archives and add disclosures? Does this apply to only American bloggers whose blogs are hosted on American servers? Does this apply to bloggers who live in other countries but host their blogs on servers in the US.

In other words we know squat but can still get screwed for $11,000 if the FTC decides we messed up somehow. And a Merry Christmas to you to.

Oh and ya we also spend a minute or two on the sad heart-breaking story of the Crunchpad.

CobWEBs Daily Edition podcast: It’s a race folks – Twitter & Kool-aid – and Twitter FTW!

cbn1-podpost Did you hear?

Twitter is where all the hot news is happening folks. Yup. It’s publishing the news faster than the fact can be confirmed. Not to mention the fact that sex is a hot topic even if you’re not the least bit interested. Yup. Those sex bots will find you no matter where you hide in Twitterland.

Gee how can you tell that tonight’s show has anything to do with Twitter?

I realize we have already punished our listeners (all three of them – not counting Sean’s mom) talking about everyone’s favorite topic once this week but given the hilarity over the idea that Twitter is once again being proclaimed as the Brutus to the news industry’s Caesar we couldn’t resist.

CobWEBs Daily Edition podcast: A single search index – a solution we’ll never see

cbn1-podpost While both Sean and I are hoping that everyone is having a great time with family and friends this Thanksgiving long weekend in the US the rest of the world gets to carry on like it is a regular Thursday which of course means another show.

Tonight once I get the last two frustrating days of trying to move data around off of my chest we both get down to talking about a great post from Tom Foremski over at Silicon Valley Watcher. In his post he talks about the idea of a single search indexed overseen by a non-profit organization.

It is a fascinating idea and one that both Sean and I agree will never happen no matter how much of a benefit it would be to the web as a whole.

CobWEBs Daily Edition podcast: Miscellaneous ramblings – blame it on the turkeys

cbn1-podpost In light of it coming up on a long weekend in the US things are getting a little on the quiet side as everyone is prepping for the turkey snooze expected to make the tech blogosphere a wasteland of news Sean and I decided to do a more of an off the cuff show tonight.

We start out with good intentions of talking about Google’s leaked secret new results page layout that has been floating around the web today. It isn’t long though before we branch out onto the sorry state of our broadband services and how when you get down to the 1’ and 0’s we are paying for more than what we are getting.

Enjoy the show.
