I read a lot of blogs every day because like for any blogger who writes fora living; or at least tries to, it is part of the job description. During the course of a day we seen the best and the wordt of blog design. Some make clicking through from the RSS feed to the actual blog an enjoyable experience, while other make us wish we could take a spoon to our eyeballs and scrub our memories of the site with bleach.

Then every once in awhile we run across a blog that makes you sit back and just want to look at it – following every page in it just for the joy of reading it and the visuals used in it. It is the type of blog that you look forward everday to seeing something new being posted on it because you know that you are in for a treat. Right know I have pretty close to 300 blogs that I follow via RSS feeds but for various reasons there is justa handful that I look at every refresh to see if there is something new from these blogging gems.

Of them all though my utmost favourite has to be chartreuse and his blog of the same name. While a lot of bloggers will use graphics as either a way to fill up space or as a way to offer a graphically counterpoint to their blog post subject chartreuse makes the graphics in intregal part of what he is writing about. For him the words almost seem seconday as much of what he is trying to get across in the post is done with the excellent juxtaposition of the graphics he uses throughout the posts.

The most recent example of his unique and facinating style of blogging can be seen in post from September called Nancy Grace And The Importance of Battlestar Galactica Figures. While the title may have sent your imamgination spiralling off in a direction contrary to what the post was about the fact is that even though the words in the post couold have stood on their own it was the graphics used that added the real substance to the post and made it worth more than just the words alone would have.

Above all this the thing that strikes me the most about chartreuse’s style of blogging is that is could be turned into a whole new style of blogging. Typically blogs runf with a certain number of stories in reverse chronological order on the main page sho that you have to scroll down through the page in order to read all the posts being offered up by the author. chartreuse though I believe is on the verge of an new kind of blogging – a kind where the words become a part of the pcitures and the pictures become a part of the words. In effect he could be creating a true magazine style picture story type of blogging.

If you first read the post I pointed to above and see how he blends the pictures and text together in order to create a cohesive story you can see the glimmer of what I am talking about. Now take my three very poor examples of the style I am referring to and maybe you’ll understand why I think this could be a really interesting new style of blogging

I am sure that talented people like chartreuse would be able to find much more artistic ways to include the story within the framework of the pictures. With the talent that he has already shown to be able to pull in his readers with his blogging style I can only imagine what he; and others like him, could do to take the art of blogging to a whole new level.
