Of all the software I use on my computer I would have to say that when I’m not using Chrome or VLC chances are that I have Explorer open on the desktop doing something. The only problem is that the version of Explorer in Vista is a piece of crap. It never seems to remember its screen position of window size between restarts of the program. It doesn’t matter what you do it never remember the view setting for different folders even though I have set specific folders I always use to a specific view type more times than I care to count.

I would recommend XYplorer or xplorer2 . Both are paid solutions but are really good.
There are some freeware options out there which match most of these features –
xplorer2 has a lite version, there is ExplorerXP (not sure if it works on Vista), Ultraexplorer and Dualexplorer.
Directory Opus is another paid option – but I find it a bit heavy.
I really wish that there were a portable Windows version of Konqueror. I have to use Explorer at school and hate it. Konqueor is awesome… file previews, integrated kparts (pdf, documents, videos, images), tabs, split view, ftp, ssh/sftp, web browser (using it now). It is awesome. Very configurable and lots of options too.

This post hits the nail on the head. I can't stand Explorer for Vista. It's slow and ugly and can't remember what it did 5 minutes ago.
BTW, you have the best blog post titles of any blog I read. Keep up the great work.
thanks Brett

Dude calm down. If you're complaining about an operating system why don't you just go make one. Honestly, nothing's perfect, and not everything has to suit YOU. Get over it. Besides, if you're seriously that pissed off at Vista then just go back to XP.
