I have written more than a few time on the risk a user takes when relying on Web 2.0 applications for part or all of their daily computer and internet work. I don’t care if it is Gmail or some other non Google Web 2.0 application.
Well apparently a Google outage today has caused more than a little consternation from folks like Gina at Lifehacker.org

I’ve become almost totally dependent on Google products and when they grind to a halt, so do I!
Tamara, who I sit next to here at work, refuses to give up Outlook and we have constant back and forth over the respective merits of our email solutions. Right now, she’s laughing.
and probably countless others around the globe.
As it turns out the outage only lasted 45 minutes but I would think during that time I would be seriously be reconsidering any decisions to rely on web based apps as a primary way of doing business; or as Phil said -

Of course, ISP’s and mail server’s alike, also go down from time to time. However, I’ll keep using POP3 mail services offered by my ISP and hosting companies, rather than put my faith (and life?) in the hands of Googlempire.
