Facebook, MySpace and others break their promise

We have been told .. and told .. that all these social services like Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter would never think of sharing our information with advertisers. Sure they are suppose to get the data they pay for but it is suppose to be anonymous data. Now we find out from a post at the Wall Street Journal that we have been lied to.

So in other words we been told to get ourselves a nice big jar of

Braindead TechCast EP66: 10,000 channels and still nothing

If there is one thing you can always count on to come out of Google’s conference announcement is division over what has been announced. Much of the news today of course has been about the coming Age of Google TV and how it is going to change everything. Ya .. okay.

We also take a little bit of a side-trip into lunacy with the news that Australia doesn’t want you bringing any porn into the country and that CBS is being a hypocrite over the title of its new show called $#*! My Dad Say – which of course everyone knows is a spin off from the Twitter account by the same name.

The rest of the show branches out to music mobile phones and other things of interest.

Braindead TechCast EP65: No green dot

With much of the news today being about Google and their I/O conference Sean and I take a look at a few of the announcements even the ones rumored to announced tomorrow.

We take a few minutes to look into the tea leaves when it comes to a possible Yahoo and AOL deal.

We then spend a little bit of time talking about mSpot and how once it was consider to be a curse on the web to have paid plugins (apps) for browsers but now it is the coolest thing going. Amazing how attitudes can change over the years and companies involved.

Braindead TechCast EP64: All the pieces are there

Even though much of the news from today centered around Facebook Sean and I still found some interesting stories besides the ones to to do with Facebook.

I however started the show with a sincere apology to Sean and our other American listeners for what is sure to be a flood of teat tweets coming our way thanks to a university study. I’ll leave it to you to find out exactly why.

One of the more interesting stories has to do with Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. It seems that ol’ Billy-boy had the whole iPhone and iPad thing figured out before Jobs did and Jobs figured that the future wold be PC-centric. That should be enough to send the Apple fans into all kinds of a frenzy.

The other really interesting story, and albeit more than a far share of prognostication on our part, is the idea that HP could be working towards being the dark horse when it comes to a large scale web-based OS that is unified across off their hardware.

Affiliate marketing can be a minefield of bad choices

There are a lot of bloggers out there that use their blogs to generate an income for themselves whether it be Google AdSense to one of the myriad of affiliate programs.

I have tried a number of the different ad platforms across my various blogs but in the end I seem to fall back on AdSense even though my payouts are dismal – which should say something about the alternatives for small bloggers.

For the past little while Chris Brogan has been writing about affiliate marketing as a way to increase your share of the money pie. Now I have a great respect for Chris but I wanted to offer up the flip side of his well thought out suggestions when it comes to affiliate marketing. Personally I think the whole thing sucks major monkey balls when it comes to small independent bloggers but I am also realistic enough to know that we are also partly to blame.

What really sucks

Have you really looked at the options that are available to the majority of bloggers when it comes to affiliate marketplaces? I have and they are disappointing to say the least especially if you are a blogger with any sort of ethics and looking to bring actual value to your readers.

Braindead TechCast EP63 – Moronic Monday with baggy jeans and expensive Barbies

It is time once again for myself and Sean to talk a walk through the moronic side of our world which means that … yes it is time for Moronic Monday and boy do we have some doozies this week for you folks.

From the Cone .. errr .. Sphere of Silence to baggy in all the wrong places jeans to some of the most expensive ways you can spoil your little girl. We have it all.

But we don’t stop there folks. Nope, not at all because we also have news that HDnet is going to start broadcasting soft porn, or as it is otherwise known as Girls Gone Wild comes to your livingroom.

Here is the list of post that hurt our brains last week and led to their being on tonight’s show.
