Attention Psion Teklogix – you bunch of idiots

It’s not very often that I find myself totally and utterly embarrassed by something done by fellow Canadians; government aside, but you bunch of idiots at Psion Teklogix make us look like a bunch of refugees from the backwoods.

For you folks who have no clue as to whom I am referring to, this pissant of a Canadian computer company has been sending out hundreds and hundreds of cease and desists letters to bloggers, journalists and computer manufacturers to stop using the term netbook as a descriptive term for those next to useless computers that are smaller than laptops and larger than most women’s makeup cases.

Now just so we are clear – this is a laptop

laptop1

These on the other hand are a whole bunch of laptops

laptops

However, this is what manufacturers and other clever marketing folks are calling a netbook

netbook1 The size difference is more than noticeable just as is the capabilities between the two; but just to make sure we’re clear on this here is what a bunch of netbooks getting together might look like

netbooks2

Now Psion Teklogix on the other hand by carrying on this stupid campaign to hijack the term netbook because of some stupid unenforceable trademark is making Canada technology look like a bunch of

idiots

In the end though Psion Teklogix by forcing such a stupid issue you continue to prove that your company and the people running it are nothing more than a bunch of

Jackasses__Mojave_D_147540c

Now I don’t own either a laptop or a netbook but if I did own a netbook I would have written across it Psion Teklogix are a bunch of idiots by making me call this anything except a NETBOOK!. I had never planned on owning a netbook and only dream of owning a laptop but you idiots almost make me want to go out an buy one as soon as possible. Get a clue guys – you are an embarrassment the the tech sector and to Canada in general beating out our current government which I would have thought next to impossible.

Just in case you might have missed my point I was trying to make here you Psion Teklogix idiots – netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook, netbook … and for good measure – they’re frikken notebooks.

Hey, like this post? Why not share it with a buddy?

If you wait to defend your trademarked term for so long it becomes an integral part of modern speech, you're screwed. If you then try to defend it after this point, you simply open yourself to being made fun of. Nobody is going to take them seriously. This issue has been tackled in court before, and the entity filing suit usually loses. Imagine Johnson & Johnson sending C&D's to everyone that refers to adhesive bandages as Band-Aids. How successful do you think they'd be?

Idiots. Either they're hoping bad press is better than no press, or they're as clueless as they appear.

Or, as pointed out on FF, they're hoping the big boys will just toss them some cash to stfu. It's a pretty common business model, really. They may have been waiting on purpose until the companies with deep enough pockets used the term.

Oh…netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook .netbook

A few years ago, Psion PDAs were the best there was, far better in usability and functionality than any Palm hand-held device, let alone “smart”phones. All of a sudden, they disappeared from the marketplace over a span of less than 12 months, as though a meteor had wiped them out the way one did for dinosaurs. This sudden activity has to be their death throes. It will not save them, they will go the way of ammonites and the t-rex and the dodo nevertheless.

Here's their funereal dirge: netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook netbook…

It’s amazing that someone who obviously has no law degree, never even owned a laptop can be such an expert in trademark law. Further, that Steven can determine that a netbook type device is as he puts it, “next to useless”. Remember its 2009 and this guy in 20 years has never owned a laptop. Also, he is showing all of us pictures of what he’s never owned.

The reality of life is that civilized people live under a set of rules and laws. People who develop and work to develop products are protected by those very copyright and trademark laws. That very protection assures companies and shareholders that third parties won’t profit from work that was not performed.

You can rant all you want. It’s a characteristic of a free society. It makes me proud to live in a country that allows people like Steven to express his opinion. Even though it lacks and substance, legal basis or merit and fundamentally goes against capitalism and free market economies. This is really a matter of someone who obviously has a dislike for one particular company. Maybe he’s an ex-employee or family member of an ex-employee.

I’m sure that if Steven “had” a job he would not want to see his employer’s intellectual property used unfairly by others. There is no difference in someone using the term iPod and Netbook. Both are trademarks of their respective companies. Both have applied for and were granted given trademark protection.

Finally, Steven your incessant repeating of the word “netbook” at the end of you post reminds me of my 2 year old when she’s not getting her way……….
